Small Businesses Built on Partnerships
Mary Schaefer Driscoll has grown her training and injury recovery business over the past decade, expanding to a second location in Hummelstown and, importantly, partnering with other small businesses like Just Juice PA, What Momma Makes and HydroWorx.
Some 40% of Pennsylvania’s 1.1 million small businesses are owned by women.
Watch the video linked above to learn more about Mary’s Health and Fitness. As a bonus, you’ll see me trying to hold my own in pickleball.

Early Childhood Education Highlighted by Governor
Last week, Gov. Josh Shapiro spoke to employees and children at CrossPoint Early Learning Center in Colonial Park to highlight a proposal for recruitment and retention bonuses affecting Pennsylvania's childcare workers.
I joined him and several Dauphin County lawmakers to discuss ways to reduce families' childcare costs by recognizing the vital role childcare workers play in early childhood education.

Supporting Our Local Fire, EMS Agencies
Fire and emergency medical services organizations in our area were awarded more than $100,000 in funding through the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.
A partial list of local recipients includes:
• Grantville Volunteer Fire Co., $14,385
• Hershey Volunteer Fire Co., $16,322
• Hummelstown Chemical Fire Co. No. 1, $13,739
• Londonderry Fire Co. No. 1, $13,309
• Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department, $16,322
• Middletown Volunteer Fire Department, $16,322
• South Central Emergency Medical Services Inc., $15,000
The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, not General Fund tax revenue.
Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, recruitment and retention, public education about fire prevention, and reduction of existing debt. All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding. Companies must file a grant agreement with OSFC by May 30 to receive their grants.
