Rep. Tom Mehaffie serves as a co-chair on the bipartisan, bicameral Nuclear Energy Caucus within the Pennsylvania General Assembly. In September 2024, Constellation Energy announced its intention to resume production at the Three Mile Island plant in Dauphin County.
Rep. Mehaffie authored a guest editorial about the announcement for PennLive.com.
You can read it here.
He sought input from the community about the plant and wrote a guest editorial for the Hummelstown Sun about that feedback.
You can read it here. Additionally, the community response was captured in a series of videos you can watch at the bottom of this page.
Mehaffie’s legislation in 2022 led to a Joint State Government Commission report about the benefits of nuclear energy and the development of small modular reactors.
You can read that report here. Page 17 references the 2019 closure of Three Mile Island, which is on track to reopen as the Crane Clean Energy Center in 2028.
