Milton Hershey School Highlights Ag Education

Feb. 15 to 22 is National FFA Week, a time to celebrate agricultural education and the leadership values it teaches.

State and national leaders within FFA traveled to Milton Hershey School on Thursday to tour the farm market, greenhouses, hydroponics lab, livestock barns and more. Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding also joined the students.

Founded in 1928, FFA has more than 1 million student members in 9,235 local chapters across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Milton and Catherine Hershey wrote into Milton Hershey School’s founding documents that the school must incorporate ag education in perpetuity

Constellation Reviews Safety Procedures

Constellation Energy has begun filing emergency response plans with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which held a hearing Wednesday to review those plans. I offered brief testimony as the company outlined its reopening procedures for Three Mile Island Unit 1, which will be renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center.

In the highly unlikely event of an issue at the plant, Constellation plans to use electronic and phone alerts similar to the notifications you receive during Amber Alerts for missing or abducted children.

The nation’s 94 nuclear reactors are run more efficiently, safely and cleanly than any other time in history. I continue to serve as a co-chairperson of the bipartisan, bicameral Nuclear Energy Caucus in Harrisburg to ensure this carbon-free source of energy remains part of the state’s power grid for decades to come.

You can read an update on the Crane Clean Energy Center timeline here.

Report Potholes to PennDOT

‘Tis the season for potholes on our roads and bridges.

To help combat potholes and prevent them from becoming a danger to vehicles and drivers, you can report potholes on state-owned roads to PennDOT. Simply call 1-800-FIX-ROAD or click here to file a report online.

Be prepared to provide specific information to help crews find the pothole, including the name of the county and municipality in which it is located, name of the road, and the closest intersection.

Connecting Those in Need with Resources

Do you know about the critical role PA 211 plays in helping Pennsylvanians connect with vital resources across the state and locally? From accessing housing and utility assistance to food assistance, mental health services or disaster support, PA 211 provides hundreds of thousands of residents a free, confidential and 24/7 lifeline to essential social services on which they can depend.

In 2024 alone, PA 211 helped almost 1.9 million Pennsylvanians.
• This included nearly 250,000 interactions with resource navigators via calls, texts and chats, and about 1.65 million searches using the PA 211 online database at pa211.org.
• The 250,000 interactions resulted in almost 705,000 referrals.
• The top needs in 2024 were housing, utilities and food. The PA 211 data demonstrates variability in needs in the Pennsylvania region.

In addition to calling 211, the newly redesigned www.pa211.org makes it even easier for residents to search for local services by ZIP code or category, ensuring they receive accurate, timely and up-to-date information.

Hershey Celebrates Volunteerism in Fire Service

Congratulations to Chris Stein, who was named firefighter of the year at Hershey Volunteer Fire Company’s banquet last weekend. The banquet had a “wacky shirt” theme. I enjoyed catching up with Chris and talking about his time in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Recognizing Good Employees

Debby Garger (teal vest) is a constituent and longtime employee in the Capitol. She brought friends to Harrisburg this week as she counted down the days to retirement.

I joined Debby on the group’s tour and chatted with them about all the great things retirement can bring.

Cub Scout Pack 97 Tours Capitol

Cub Scout Pack 97 from Londonderry Township made it to our beautiful Capitol on Saturday morning before the inclement weather started. The bear and webelos toured the building, then I brought them into the House chamber and answered questions.
