Conewago Township Farmland Preserved for Future Generations, Mehaffie Says
December 15, 2025
HARRISBURG – A Conewago Township crop and livestock farm has been accepted into the state’s farmland preservation program, ensuring it remains an agricultural property in perpetuity, according to Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin).
Jonathan Coble’s family submitted its 181-acre farm for a conservation easement approved last week by the Pennsylvania Agriculture Land Preservation Board.
“I commend the Cobles for taking this step to protect the land, so everyone can grow up seeing how Pennsylvania’s farms feed the nation,” Mehaffie said. “I’ve been fortunate to visit with the Cobles on their impressive, eighth-generation farm. I commend them for thinking about the future at a time when they, like all farmers, are facing unprecedented challenges and uncertainties.”
The Cobles’ bicentennial farm was one of 27 farms preserved last week across Pennsylvania. Established in the late 1980s, the preservation program uses easements to prohibit commercial or residential development on prime farmland.
