Recycling, Shredding Available for Household Products

April 14, 2026

MIDDLETOWN – A recycling and shredding event scheduled for Saturday, April 25, will accept electronics, paper, gently used clothing and housewares.

Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) is partnering with Sen. Patty Kim (D-Dauphin) and Rep. Dave Madsen (D-Dauphin) to host the event from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department, 1350 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown. The Earth Day-related event seeks to:

• Shred sensitive documents for safe disposal. The on-site shredder can accommodate paper, but binder clips, paper clips and plastic bags must be removed. No businesses, please.
• Recycle electronics such as televisions and laptops.
• Collect donations of gently used clothing and housewares to give them a second life.

“It’s likely many of my friends and neighbors across Dauphin County are spring cleaning, just like my family is doing. We Middletown-area legislators are happy we could partner to offer these services,” Mehaffie said.

“Spring is the perfect time to clear out old paperwork, electronics, clothing, and other items taking up space in our homes. My colleagues and I are so pleased to be able to provide an opportunity to offload all of these items in one convenient spot,” Kim said.

“I’m excited to invite neighbors to our community spring drop off – a one stop opportunity to securely shred tax and other sensitive documents now that filing season is over, recycle electronics, donate clothing, and safely dispose of household items,” Madsen said. “Bring what you no longer need to clear out clutter, protect your privacy, and support local families. I look forward to seeing you there.”

Anyone with questions can call Mehaffie’s office at 717-534-1323.
