Kim, Mehaffie to Host Senior Fraud Prevention Event

HARRISBURG – Sen. Patty Kim (D-Dauphin) and Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) are joining to host a senior fraud and scam prevention event Friday, Sept. 25.

Older adults and their caregivers are invited to attend the free event from 9 a.m. to noon at DaySpring Ministries, 1600 Spring Garden Drive, Middletown.

Personnel from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and Mid Penn Bank will present information about ways consumers can protect themselves from common scams, identity theft and fraud.

“In today’s world it’s easier than ever for our seniors to fall victim to scams that rob them of their money, their identity, and, above all else, their dignity,” Kim said. “It’s a scary reality, but we can’t just bury our heads in the sand. We want to not only make seniors aware of these scams but also give them the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and their assets.”

“Just last week, I heard from a woman who had nearly fallen victim to a pervasive telephone scam,” Mehaffie said. “Modern technology is emboldening fraudsters to prey on so many people. My hope is this event gives Dauphin County residents the tools and knowledge to safeguard themselves.”
